So today I sat out on our balcony and watched the Malibu wildfires.  It was pretty surreal.  We live in Santa Monica, which is far from the fire, but close enough to get a good view of the huge plumes of smoke billowing over the mountains and hills.  At sunset, the smoke had drifted out over the water and turned the sky crimson.  It was very creepy and kind of cool looking all at once.  I just feel bad for the people whose homes are getting burned up.  I guess that was one good thing about living in Chapel Hill, NC--no fires and no earthquakes!
