WATCHING:
So Lisa and I caught We Own the Night today, which was pretty good in a Godfather-wannabe kind of way. Some great, inventive action scenes. The only weird thing is that the movie is supposedly set in 1988.... but the music and clothes were way off (more like circa 1980 or so). I don't know if this was some kind of deliberate anachronism, but it just made the time period seem fuzzy. Other than that, the movie is definitely worth tracking down if you like police/gangster thrillers.
LISTENING:
Kate Bush, Big Star, Manish Kalvakota, Dean & Britta, Luna, The Cure, and Mudhoney.
READING:
New Cinematographers by Alexander Ballinger--awesome book that tracks the work of five incredible cinematographers (including Jean Yves Escoffier, who shot one of my all time favorite films, Leos Carax's Les Amants de Point Neuf aka The Lovers on the Bridge).
