MOVIES:
So I finally watched the rest of Joon-ho Bong's monster movie, The Host.  It was sort of a glorious trainwreck, and I definitely didn't think it was as great as everyone else did (a Metacritic score of 85? huh? really?)  I'm a huge fan of Joon-ho's previous movie, Memories of Murder, which is a bleak, bizarre crime drama, and one of the best films of the last few years.  So The Host was just kind of a crazy mishmash of every "monster movie" trope out there.  The "plot" didn't really make any sense, and the special effects were really cheesy--the creature looked like an early CGI effort, like out of Jumanji or something. I did like the anti-governement theme running through the piece, and the movie has its funny parts, but it felt like an ironic knock-off of Jaws, or a failed attempt to combine Signs and Lady in the Water perhaps (Joon-ho cheerfully babbles about his love of M. Night Shyamalan on the director's commentary track, so maybe this explains things--although personally I thought even The Village was a lot better than The Host).

MUSIC:
Cody & Gillette are playing on an endless loop!

BOOKS:
My Spanish textbook and dictionary (yes, I'm learning Spanish--it's fun, sort of).
